Smell of coffee circulates through the lodge air. I walk out towards the deck to feel salty mist brushing my face for a wake up call and the sound of waves curling for an alarm – the perfect alarm clock. Here’s what a normal morning feels like at the Karioi Lodge, and if you have find yourself stumbling on this gem, you most likely fell in the right place.
Between the deep green brush, at the base of The Sleeping Lady and above the roaring shores, rests Karioi Lodge. Some say, this place is a little piece of home; some say it is the perfect place to stay for a while and for me, this place stole my heart. Come to the lodge for one night stay, or extend it for as long as you can, which is what I and many others have found themself doing. Come here to learn how to surf, or ride the expert surf breaks for the well-seasoned surfer and share your favorite part of the day around a shared home cooked meal at dinner.
Holiday festivities have come and went and many laughs were shared here. Christmas Eve, was a full day of cooking for our big group dinner which included all of the workers, WWOFers, guests and friends followed by an all day surf marathon for Christmas day. New Years was spent, dancing in town at the Yot Club and chill out time at the lodge to some funky music. The holiday season wrapped up to clean waves rolling through as an after party to the week! Upcoming we are gearing for Sound Splash on January 19th located at the fairgrounds in Raglan.
